Bruce and Philip hike south on the Xikeng Forest road 西坑林道 from Xiaoyi 孝義. The Xikeng trail 西坑林道, formerly provincial road 9A, once connected Shuangshikou 雙溪口 with Xiaoyi 孝義 east of Wulai 烏來 over a distance of over 20 kilometers in southern Taipei county. The road crosses the northernmost section of the HsuehShan Range 雪山山脈. We walk steadily for two hours to reach the Shikeng bridge from Xiaoyi, then another hour to a landslide where it looks like the trail should continue along the road, before turning around.
