Oct 16 - Thimphu Zoo

The king released all the animals from the from the zoo after deciding that it was not in keeping with Bhutan's environmental policies and religious beliefs. However, the takins, a hoven animal indigenous to the Himalayas, had become used to being cared for and wandered the streets of Thimpu begging for food. As a result, the takins, as we were told, we're collected and placed in one large area of forest on the outskirts of Thimpu, where they have relative freedom and are well cared for, as can be seen by their growing number.
