The Bhutan National Library is in a three-story structure built in the traditional Bhutanese style. Because the library holds many Dzongkha and Tibetan sacred texts, it is considered a holy place. An altar has been erected on each floor of the building. Each altar honors different Buddhist saints or deities. A UN-sponsored cultural preservation project is slated to expand the National Library and its surrounding grounds to create facilities for the study and preservation of the many sacred Buddhist texts housed in the library. |
